Received message that my browser is out of date.  How do I fix this?

Any suggestions or help welcome.

Google "how do I update Firefox, IE, Chrome" (pick the one you use).  I know for Chrome they keep you automatically updated.  Or find where it says "about (insert browser name here)", maybe under tools or help.  This might give you options to update.  If you want more help, just list your browser here and I will help you figure it out.  Oh, cnet.com also has downloads for everything under the sun.  Just search what you are looking for.

It depends. What operating system does your computer use, Windows XP, Vista, 7, or MAC? What Browser, Internet Exployer, Firefox, Google Chrome?

If your computer uses Windows XP, you can not update Internet Explorer beyond version 8, which is out of date. I suspect the same may be true of Vista, but don't realy know. Try a different Browser like Firefox or Google Chrome.

An article from Kim Commando today mentions a notice about browser updates. She refers to it as a "watering hole attack". It is worth reading. http://www.komando.com/t...14-01-28-article-1-end-b

Yes, I just read this as well.  Might want to consider that is what happened, marli23514.

Here is a great way to check what browser you are using and if it is up to date.  Just click on the whatbrowser.org link or type it in the address bar.  http://www.komando.com/coolsites/index.aspx?id=13951

That is what I think happened too.  No more messages received that browser is out of date.

Thanks for all your assists.

To update FireFox: Upper left hand corner next to Firefox, click arrow, on dropdown menu click About. If not current, update on that screen.

I am really enjoying the speed and simplicity of Chrome.  The only problem is my emails are still on AOL so I have to keep switching back and forth.

Once again, thank you for your kind assistance and emails regarding browser.

I have three computers, 2 I7's one with Windows 8.1 and the other with Windows 7 Pro. The third computer is a older duel core with Windows 7.  I run a combination of browsers that include Explorer 10 and 11, Chrome and Firefox. Usually when the operating systems run correctly the browsers will also.  The biggest problems I had was when the older MS OS virually went out entirely. That's when I switched to 8.1.

If I may suggest to anyone thinking about switching OS', go to Windows 7 and not 8.1. 8.1 runs fast but you have to deal with tiles and extra comands to really use it well.  Microsoft got so many complaints about 8.1 that they already announced a new version that will be coming out in a year to two years that will be closer to Windows 7.  I think you would be better off to wait if you are currently using Windows 7 before the new version comes out.

The other problem with 8.1 is not all of the older software will run on it correctly.  I am having to upgrade up PDF software because of this. There might be other software that should run on 8.1 but won't.

I would also suggest to wait and just to get a new computer in a year or two with the new OS already on it.  The newer OS really need to be running on at least a I5 board and I would suggest something even faster.

When I bought a new computer a few years back I purposely bought an i7 for speed for entering sweeps.  Fortunately, it was still Windows 7 at that point and I don't plan on hopefully ever having to use the windows 8 they came out with.  I also gained some speed by switching from IE to Chrome.  Thanks for the info, Mr. Sweepy.
