I have the free version of AVG and have been very satisfied.  This morning a pop-up, apparently from AVG, said I could be even more protected with the paid version, now at half price.  Hmm.  But when I went to the AVG website or download site no discount was offered.  Any idea about the legitimacy of the pop-up this morning?  If it is genuine that is probably a good deal, but I'm just not sure.  What do you think?

Any advice, suggestions will be most appreciated.  Thanks.

You are wise to be wary.  I always go directly to the website (AVG, Adobe, etc.) or to CNET.com to do my downloads.  I never trust those pop ups.  Can't tell you if it was legit or not without seeing it.  You could try opening your AVG interface and see if they offer anything there.  I have the paid version on my desktop where I enter all my sweeps and love it.  I use the free version on my laptop because I only use it when traveling for basic stuff like emails.
