Since Mr. Sweepy is meeting with the 3 big agencies to advise them how to improve sweeps, I'd like to offer one:

Tell them to run more sweeps with HIGHER AGE MINIMUMS.  I doubt they put any thought into age at all and just cut-and-paste boilerplate rules that say 18 and up.  But there are hundreds of sweeps where the sponsor CLEARLY do not have 18-year-olds as their target market.  And they'd be better off limiting entries to 25 or 35 and up. So, they won't be disappointed when the winner of their sweeps turns out to be some punk who  won't be buying their products and can't be used in any follow-up advertising.

It's possible some of them think it would be age discrimination but there is NO SUCH THING legally as age discrimination for anyone younger than 40.

Anyway, that would be my suggestion if I was advising sweeps sponsors.

A older minimum age will not happen.  Mainly the possibility of a PR backlash.  The truth is not many under the age of 40 enters in most sweep.

Well yes, Michael. I'm sure the 99% of the population who are smarter than you could think of hundreds of examples of products where I would be more likely to purchase their products and would be a better fit for follow-up advertising.

Well, there are a few people out there that take sweeping to an extreme and resort to cheating. Camel did a great job of eliminating the multiple accounts and limited instant wins to one per account.

2. Please allow for autofill. Some sweeps do not allow auto-fill and not only is it tedious for daily entries, it can lead to TYPOS and then you never get your prize because of a TYPO.

3. I know this will not fly, but I hate the social media sharing for extra entries deal.

4. Lately, I feel E-prize is banning sweepers from winning. I could be wrong, but if they are doing this, this is wrong.

I'd like to cast my vote for eliminating those infernal UNLOCK ENTRY buttons on the magazine sweeps.  I don't mind having to enter some short phrase to take away the ability for cheating but the UNLOCK ENTRY not only wastes alot of time but it defeats the purpose of the advertising, frustrating the player to the point where they hate the product!

Or, at least make them shorter, e.g., the Geico ads.

Many thanks for this forum!  diane

Trips are OK, but yes please offer a cash option!!!! instead!

I know of one sponsor they were giving away a trip. The trip became a disaster due to an error by Orbitz! Since then they stopped giving away trips and  now they give away cash on a monthly basis!!!!

My family is proof that these promotions work Mr. Sweepy.. I switched from an avid Pepsi holic to Coke products about five years ago.. And also from other beer brands to strickly Miller Lite since July of this year ( I won a $1,000 check from MillerLite last month in a Twitter contest) and those are only two....

Thank you Mr. S and everyone else that helps us make entering so easy..

Cash option for trip wins, eh?

Sounds like a reasonable request.

I'll second that!

Don't forget the ridiculous amount of spam e-mail we get afterwards and some of them make it really hard to unsubscribe

There have been some complaints about CAPTCHAs

But they are Necessary, becuase there are a few weirdos out there that use bots and other computerized programs to drain a sweepstakes DRY!

Don't forget the sweepstakes entry services also.  Places like Win For Me and Sweepstakes Ninja that will, for a fee, enter you in contests.  They are prevented (hopefully) from doing so by the Captchas and the rules prohibitions against Automated Entry Services.

I think it's way too many facebook sweepstakes entry. I think it should at least be an option to enter on regular website if you do not use facebook.
