I'm seeing a new trend in the gift cards I'm receiving from sweeps wins.  They are coming to me already more than thirteen months old and have had fees deducted.  The first one was from a Kelloggs sweeps and it was minus $5.  Kelloggs was great and more than made up for it after I contacted them.  Yesterday I received one from eprize from a Clorox sweeps.  I checked the balance and discovered it was over seventeen months old and had $19.75 of the $30 balance already deducted from it!!!  I've emailed eprize and am waiting for a response.

I was also dismayed with the gift cards from a recent Miller Lite sweeps.  Each transaction using the gift card is assessed a .50 fee.  I ordered three items from Amazon in one order but they each were shipped and charged separately so an extra $1.50 was deducted from the card.  Miller Lite is very generous with their gift card prizes and I appreciate that but the card issuers are making a lot of money off these gift cards.

Are they also getting a fee from retailer?

I thought the same thing.  Before I realized they were charging the .50 fee I used one of the $25 gift cards in one transaction.  Who paid the .50 fee?  The retailer?

BTW- ePrize sent a $20 replacement GC for the fees that had been deducted. Problem is, the new gift card is already over 10 months old and will start deducting $3.95 a month on Dec. 15th. Not that I won't be able to spend it before then but, come on, it's ridiculous!

Did you contact them about the feesor did they just send it?

Oh, believe me, I contacted them.  I thought they might send me a whole new gift card and cancel the one I had but they just sent me a new one to cover the deducted fees.  So I have til 11/1 to spend the first one and til 12/15 to spend the second one before more fees are taken out. They even enclosed a hand written note apologizing for the inconvenience.  I also didn't realize you have to call the toll free number on the card to get the pin number.  I tried using them twice and got rejected before I figured this out.  Frustrating!

Figures-so ridiculous that they can do that to you. I thinks it's illegal and the bank involved with the particular card should be notified and put a stop to the practice.
